The twin Brothers Benji and Joel Madden grew up in a lower middle-class family in a town in Waldorf/Maryland.  Their dad was an alcoholic and left on Christmas 1995. But the twins always had each other.

Benji learned to play guitar by himself at 16 years, the two were starting to write songs and were singing and playing after school, every day for many hours. The Band was formed in 1995, originally with drummer Aaron. He and Paul were at the same high school with the Twins. When Billy joined in for the second guitar, Good Charlotte was complete. Good Charlotte have their name from a children book, their first gig was in a neighbour´s basement. They played their own songs, the twins dedicated themselves to their music, they cut their first demo and wrote their bio and began mailing off to list record companies. Benji and Joel graduated high school in June 1997. They left home and played more shows and worked all kinds of jobs. The band won a local contest and were found by a manager.

They signed their deal in May 2000 in the studio they were recording. The Album “Good Charlotte” came out in September 2000. Now they were non-stop on the road.  MTV took notice and their first video “Little Things” was on the TV, then “Motivation Proclamation” and the “Festival Song.” But Aaron soon left the band to join his cousin´s band. 

The twins are hosting MTV´s “All things Rock”.

In 2002 they released their second album “The Young and the Hopeless”. “Lifestyles of the rich and the famous” was the first single of the album. Chris Wilson joined the band in summer 2003, he was the new drummer, and is official the new band member. They have one hit after another, and a third album in production.
